Hi Friend,

During this time of shutdown and quarantine, I've found myself in a weekly dialogue with fans and friends via the comment section of our livestreams. Every Sunday, we go live and share what's growing in our gardens, what we're watching, and what we're excited about. Sometimes folk's questions fly by so fast in the comments I don't have time to answer or even fully read them.So, I've decided to create a dedicated space where you can ask me anything. I will answer a selection of these questions in long-form on a new section of my website: Mary's Mercy Missives.

I hope to answer one question a month, but some months I might be inspired to answer more. If you have questions about songwriting, please bring them on! If you want to ask about what it’s like to live the life of an outsider songwriter in Nashville, or philosophical questions about love, life, grief, aging, the music business, what I am reading right now, please ask. I will not publish your name or address, only your initials.

In my life, I've had the opportunity to ask many of my heroes questions: John Prine, Willie Nelson, Nanci Griffith, David Olney, Guy Clark, John Hiatt, etc. I will treasure these interactions forever and hope to write about many of them in my next book. I didn’t know it at the time, but their answers to my questions burned into my memory, and their words continue to resonate inside me.

Each response on the missives page will be sent to the subscribers on this email list. I believe that these conversations will be the foundation of my second book. So, I am excited to share these writings with all of you first, and have you become a part of this ongoing story of a creative life. A life in song.
